While the use of prescription painkillers poses many benefits for individuals suffering from pain as a result of surgery, injury or pain conditions, the abuse of these medications comes with a high price. Whether a person uses painkillers outside of the recommendations set forth by his or her prescribing doctor or uses them for recreational purposes, the abuse of prescription painkillers is certainly not without consequences. Many of these medications, such as OxyContin, Vicodin, or Opana, are highly addictive in nature and can quickly become the focus of a person’s world if an addiction develops. Unfortunately, many people do abuse prescription painkillers and find themselves in a vicious cycle of addiction that can seem impossible to defeat independently. The high caused by these medications can make a person feel euphoria and detached from his or her surroundings, yet these medications can also cause a person to feel uncomfortable and experience pain in the event he or she abruptly stops his or her use of painkillers. The withdrawal associated with prescription pain medication abuse is, sadly, often enough of a reason for a person to resume his or her abuse of these drugs.
The seemingly endless pattern of self-destruction that is involved in an addiction to prescription medications can be stopped. By partaking in treatment, a person battling a chemical dependency concern of this kind can regain control and live a happy, healthy, and sober life once more. With the help of such professionals at an addiction treatment and rehab center, individuals can find recovery from their addiction to prescription painkillers.
At Bowling Green Brandywine, located in Kennett Square, PA, we understand the physical and psychological pain associated with an addiction to prescription pain medications. For this reason, we are proud to offer the life-saving treatment and rehab needed to overcome an addiction so that those grappling with chemical dependency can come to understand their addiction more and acquire the skills needed to achieve and sustain healing, recovery, and sobriety once they leave our addiction treatment center.

Why Consider Treatment
Why consider treatment for painkiller addiction at Bowling Green Brandywine in Kennett Square, PA
While many people are familiar with the dangers associated with illegal drug use and abuse, there are misconceptions in existence that negate the dangers involved in abusing prescription pain medications. Several medications, especially those that are oxycodone or hydrocodone-based, can be habit-forming and lead to an addiction that will likely wreak havoc in a person’s life. If an addiction to painkillers forms, the resulting consequences can include loss of one’s job due to poor work performance, interaction with the legal system when trying to acquire more of these medications, and increased conflict within interpersonal relationships. Furthermore, if an individual is abusing these medications and is also struggling with a mental health condition at the same time, it is probable that that person will experience an overall decline in his or her mental health. From a physiological standpoint, the health risks associated with prescription pain medication abuse and addiction can be fatal if allowed to remain an active component in a person’s life. The risk for overdose is ever-present and the damage done to an individual’s vital organs may be irreversible. Fortunately, those who seek treatment at a high-quality prescription painkiller addiction treatment and rehab center can avoid these consequences and risks and ultimately achieve the healing and recovery needed to live sober lives.
