When used for legitimate medical purposes, Xanax can be monumentally beneficial in improving the overall quality of life of people who suffer from symptoms of anxiety. However, the mood and mind-altering properties of this substance make it one that is, unfortunately, frequently abused for non-medical purposes. Whenever people take Xanax that was not prescribed to them or take it in amounts that exceed that which was prescribed to them, they are abusing this substance. The profound feelings of relaxation and mild euphoria that result from that use is what leaves many individuals stuck in a cyclical pattern of Xanax abuse and subsequent addiction. Once this pattern has developed, overcoming the addiction can be exceedingly difficult. Thankfully, with the help of such professionals at an addiction treatment and rehab center, individuals can find recovery from their addiction to Xanax. At Bowling Green Brandywine, located in Kennett Square, PA, we recognize how challenging it can be to fight the war against an addiction to a substance like Xanax and have therefore devised specialized programming options that are aimed at helping the outcomes of these battles be successful ones. How to Help a Loved One
Helping a loved one get treatment for Xanax addiction
If you have a family member or loved one who is struggling with the ongoing compulsion to abuse Xanax, you may have noticed a significant change in his or her behavior, demeanor, and overall personality. You likely have strong concerns regarding how his or her future is going to be affected if he or she does not put an end to this dangerous type of behavior, but you may be questioning how you should intervene. Consider the following:
- While it might be tempting, do not get rid of any Xanax that you may discover in your loved one’s possession. Doing so will only anger him or her and will typically result in your loved one seeking out more of the substance anyway.
- Learn about the different signs and symptoms that may be indicative of the fact that someone is abusing Xanax. Having this knowledge will help you better identify if your loved one has a problem, as well as how severe that problem may be.
- Learn about the effects that prolonged Xanax abuse can have on an individual. Having this wealth of information can better prepare you for expressing your concerns to your loved one.
- Research viable treatment and rehab centers that are designed for people who struggle with substance abuse concerns, such as an addiction to Xanax.
- Sit down with your loved one and have an open and honest conversation where you are able to express your concerns and fears regarding his or her Xanax addiction. During this conversation, be sure to allow your loved one to have time to express how he or she feels as well.
- Anticipate denial, anger, and defensiveness when first speaking with your loved one. Do not allow this negativity to deter you from fully expressing your thoughts and feelings.
- Present your loved one with your findings from the research you did on possible treatment and rehab centers specializing in Xanax addiction. Offer to assist your loved one in beginning the admissions process.
- Once your loved one has become engaged in treatment and rehab, speak with his or her treatment provider to determine how you can be an active part of the therapeutic process, as doing this can demonstrate your support for your loved one every step of the way while he or she is in treatment and rehab at a center for Xanax abuse.
Why Consider Treatment
Why consider treatment for Xanax addiction at Bowling Green Brandywine in Kennett Square, PA
People who use Xanax for non-medicinal purposes are at risk for experiencing any number of detrimental consequences. The abuse of this substance can make it difficult for individuals to perform at the expected level occupationally, potentially resulting in job loss, chronic unemployment, and financial turmoil. As people become more consumed by their use of this substance, their relationships with others may also become tainted, possibly resulting in the demise of marriages, the onset of familial strife, and the development of disturbances within important friendships. Short-term memory loss, chronic migraines, muscle pain, muscle spasms, chest pains, and seizures are all examples of effects that are known to occur as the result of Xanax abuse. Fortunately, by taking part in appropriate treatment interventions at a high-quality Xanax addiction treatment and rehab center, individuals who are addicted to Xanax can successfully avoid suffering from such detriments.
